Marian Wayside Shrine

At the crossroads of the paths leading to the Church of the Nativity of Virgin Mary stands a distinctive Neo-Gothic column shrine, more commonly known by locals as the Maselnova Chapel. Erected in the mid-19th century, the shrine is an important part of the region’s cultural heritage and a lasting symbol of the pilgrimage route that has connected the area with spirituality and tradition for centuries.

The chapel is built on an octagonal stone base that rises into a square niche, framed by Neo-Gothic windows. Above the niche, a narrow shaft extends upward and then widens at the top into a small house-like structure, giving the shrine its unique and recognizable silhouette.

The central element of the shrine is a wooden statue of Virgin Mary, holding the infant Jesus in her arms. This image symbolizes maternal love, grace, and hope. The statue is carefully placed within the niche and faces the footpath leading to the top of Trška Gora, serving as a spiritual guidepost for pilgrims and visitors alike.
