Slak Trail
The Slak Trail is a 7.8-kilometre circular hiking path dedicated to the legend of Slovenian folk music and virtuoso of the diatonic accordion, Lojze Slak, who found inspiration and place of solace in Trška Gora. With just over 200 meters of elevation gain, it is suitable for a variety of visitors and offers both cultural and natural experiences. Along the way, you’ll encounter numerous landmarks that reflect the rich history, traditions, and winemaking tradition in the heart of the Dolenjska region.
Lojze Slak Monument
Lojze Slak Monument has been erected in honour of the master accordionist, who profoundly influenced Slovenian culture with his music. He created a new musical direction with the folk instrument—the diatonic accordion, known among the people as the “frajtonarica”—which he perfected with a sixth bass and an additional button, the so-called “Slak button”. Not far away stands the Slak Vineyard Cottage, where Lojze Slak spent many moments creating music. He once said: “After long tours, exhausting performances, and lengthy meetings, after all the small and big absurdities of the world, Trška Gora always feels like a balm for the soul and body.”
Organized Hike Along the Slak Trail
The Slak Trail is not just a walk through vineyards, but also a journey through the history and heritage of the Dolenjska region. Since 2012, the Trška Gora Winegrowers’ Association has organized the traditional Slak Trail hike every year in May, attracting hikers from all corners of Slovenia. Visitors can stop at any point along the trail, enjoy the nature, and meet local winegrowers who proudly share their work.
