The Hayrack at Bajnof
The hayrack at Bajnof is one of the most remarkable cultural landmarks in the Dolenjska region. Stretching over 100 meters in length, it is renowned as the longest single hayrack in Slovenia.
A Masterpiece of Traditional Architecture
The structure features ten windows and an impressive construction that blends traditional materials with masterful craftsmanship. Between two stone pillars stands a single wooden support beam, while the crossbars used for drying (known as rante) are also made of wood. A classic gabled roof covered with clay tiles gives the hayrack its distinctly Slovenian character. In 1994, it underwent a complete restoration, which returned it to its original grandeur and ensured its preservation for future generations.
A Symbol of Slovenian Heritage
For centuries, hayracks have been an essential part of the Slovenian countryside, used for storing and drying hay and other crops. The Bajnof hayrack goes beyond its practical purpose—it stands as a symbol of cultural heritage and a harmonious link between nature and the cultural landscape.
