Trška gora Between Castles

Set off on an animated hiking trail with tastings of local delicacies and wines, revealing Trška gora through castle stories, vineyard traditions, and unspoiled nature. Along the way, you will taste medieval dishes, traditional vineyard snacks, and discover the stories of Cviček wine, beer, and natural fruit juices.

Trška gora lies between Stari Grad (Old Castle), Hmeljnik Castle, and Otočec Castle. From this exceptional landscape, the thematic Three Castles Trail was created.

All programs are inspired by life in Novo mesto and its surroundings in the past, with a strong focus on castle stories. The animated experiences are adapted to the age of participants and the route itself. Hikes are led by a local guide and include interpretive elements, costumes, and replicas of historical objects. Along the way, you can expect fun challenges, castle tales, and seven tasting stops featuring local culinary specialties.

1. From Castles to Vineyard Hills
   Designed for lovers of easy hikes who enjoy movement, local stories, and traditions. The trail leads from Otočec Castleto Stari Grad, continuing through vineyard hills to the top of Trška gora. After several scenic and cultural stops and visits to vineyard cottages, the route passes the School Vineyard Cottage and ends at the Trška gora entry point in Senovo — or continues back to the starting point.
   Duration: 4–5 hours

2. Castle Stories and Woodland Adventures
   Ideal for families, children, and school groups, this program invites young explorers to discover tradition, customs, and nature in a fun and engaging way. The route runs from the Trška gora entry point to Stari Grad and on to Otočec Castle. This easy circular forest trail follows streams and rapids between the two castles, offering playful challenges and entertaining storytelling for children.
   Duration: 4–5 hours

3. The Three Castles Trail
   Designed for groups and individuals seeking a deeper and more immersive experience on a longer and slightly more demanding route. This trail includes all elements of the first program but extends the hike by approximately two additional hours. Starting at the Trška gora entry point in Senovo, the route leads to Hmeljnik Castle, past Stari Grad, to Otočec Castle, and back to the starting point — accompanied by animation and tastings throughout.
   Duration: 6–7 hours
